BAKER, LA (WAFB) - Dennis Shaver's LSU Track &Field team leaves for Eugene, Oregon on Sunday and the Lady Tigers are expected to make a strong run at another NCAA Outdoor National Championship.
A total of 15 athletes will make the trip for LSU with competition slated for Wednesday, June 6 through Saturday, June 9 at the University of Oregon, about 45 minutes from Oregon State in Corvalis, where the LSU Baseball Tigers are challenging the host Beavers at the NCAA Regional.
Headlining the Lady Tigers are defending NCAA 100 meter champion Mikiah Brisco from Baton Rouge High and two-time SEC 100 meter champion Aleia Hobbs from New Orleans.
Both world-class sprinters will also team with Kortnei Johnson and Rachel Misher, an Episcopal grad, in the 4-by-100 meter relay. The foursome set the collegiate record of 42.05 at the SEC Championships last month.
Brisco is also qualified in the 200 meters and Misher will also run the 400 meters and a leg of the 4-by-400 relay. The LSU men's relay teams are also making the trip and Shaver says they've been showing significant improvement in the post-season, including the NCAA Regionals in Tampa, Florida two weeks ago.
