BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Family and friends gathered for a balloon release for Sammy Lee Thursday night.

The 12-year-old was killed one year ago today by a truck fleeing from police. His family says Sammy was a fun loving kid and even defined him as the clown of the family: always smiling, dancing, and having a good time. One year later, they've learned to lean on each other to keep going.

"I'm smiling because I see a lot of love around me, basically, and that God number one gives me the strength and I know that I have other kids that I have to live on for, so that's what gets me through," said Michelle Terrance, Sammy's mother.
