BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police said a man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting Friday night turned himself in to authorities Saturday.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Joseph Mobley, 19, surrendered to detectives after he says he accidentally shot and killed his uncle, Donvonte Mobley, 25, on Victoria Drive.
Donvonte Mobley was shot in the head while exiting a vehicle, police said.
According to Joseph Mobley's arrest report, Donvonte Mobley was driving a white Honda Accord, with his girlfriend sitting in the passenger's seat, and Joseph Mobley was sitting in the backseat behind Donvonte Mobley.
Donvonte's girlfriend told investigators that once they arrived at Joseph Mobley's home, she heard a loud band and saw that Donvonte had been shot.
She added there was no prior dispute between Joseph Mobley and Donvonte Mobley and did not know of any motive for the shooting other than accidental.
In an interview with investigators, Joseph Mobley reportedly said he had pulled his pistol from his waist and it accidentally went off. He allegedly told police he was scared and ran away before turning himself in to police.
Joseph Mobley was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with negligent homicide. His bond is set at $40,000.
This is an ongoing investigation.
