GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Jambalaya lovers will not be disappointed if they head to Gonzales this weekend.
Eighty-six cooks are stirring up their best pot at the city's annual Jambalaya Festival. The first round of chefs started cooking and setting up early Friday afternoon. They are all competing to be crowned the King of Cooks.
The festival also features rides, carnival games, and a variety of other food. The mayor says its main dish though is what keeps people coming back.
"Certainly got to be the food. It's got to be the jambalaya. It's not an easy task to get out there and cook a jambalaya. You've got to know what you are doing. That's why I admire what these guys do every year," said Mayor Barney Arceneaux.
The jambalaya Festival is also hosting 16 live bands this weekend. The fun wraps on Sunday night.
