BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome is kicking off her Summer Youth Employment Program with the help of AT&T.
The company presented the mayor with a check for $40,000 to help fund the STEM-focused job skills training program. Participants from across the Capital City are given the chance to work in real offices to learn good work habits, as well as the importance of jobs in the tech world.
"These students are going to be educated in web development and coding processes so that they understand how important it is that they keep up with their math and science skills all throughout their lives, so that they'll have great careers when they graduate from high school and college," said Sonia Perez, president of AT&T Louisiana.
"We want this program to help build a solid foundation for each and every one of you, to engage in real world and real life working experiences," said Broome.
The mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program runs through the month of June.
