BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Sheriff's deputies were called out to the scene of a deadly shooting early Wednesday morning.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Rynell Alexander, 16, of Baton Rouge. Investigators say a 17-year-old was also shot. They added his injuries are not considered life-threatening and he is expected to survive.
A 16-year-old male was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection with the case. He was booked into a juvenile detention center on charges of first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, illegal carry and discharge of a weapon, and aggravated criminal damage to property.
Deputies say it happened on Truman Street near Plank Road around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23.
According to detectives, the two teens were in a vehicle parked in front of an abandoned house when they were shot. They added the teens were there for a drug transaction and were shot by the people they were planning to meet with.
Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says the victims drove to an apartment complex on Plank Road, where Alexander died from his injuries. He added the second teen then ran across the street to a gas station and emergency officials were contacted.
