POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - One man is dead after being ejected from his vehicle in a wreck in Pointe Coupee Parish.
Louisiana State Police reports just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, May 13, troopers responded to the scene of a wreck on LA 413 west of LA 414 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The single-vehicle wreck took the life of Byron Walker, 29, of Innis.
The initial investigation shows Walker was driving westbound on LA 413 in a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer, when for reasons still under investigation, he crossed the center line, hit a mailbox on the eastbound side of the road, then over-corrected to the right, causing the vehicle to run off the ride side of the road and flip.
Walker was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner's Office.
It's unknown if Walker was impaired at the time of the wreck, but a toxicology sample was taken for analysis.
