ST. AMANT, LA (WAFB) -

High school can often feel like a place where being different is the last thing you want to be. But a graduation moment captured on camera might make you think twice about that.

Samantha "Sami" Whitney graduated from St. Amant High School on Thursday, May 10. When she walked off the stage, her fellow 479 graduates erupted, cheering her accomplishment.

"She is loved and she loves everybody back," said Jackie Tisdell, Public Information Officer for Ascension Parish Schools. "She clapped for every single person who walked across that stage last night, so it was great to see that they did the same for her. I think it's a testament to how much she's loved. "

Tisdell described Sami as "St. Amant's biggest fan" because she is the embodiment of school spirit. Not only does Sami attends all of the sporting events to cheer on her classmates with enthusiasm, she takes part in her own competitions.

"She has competed in Special Olympics for several years," Tisdell explained.

It just goes to show that being yourself is the best way to be.
