ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A Geismar man has now been indicted on the charge of second degree murder after reportedly shooting and killing a Prairieville man earlier this year.
An Ascension Parish grand jury indicted Cedric Emerson, 35, on Monday, May 7. He has been indicted in connection with the shooting death of Frederick Patterson, 36.
Officials with the 23rd Judicial District Court say on March 11, deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a home in Prairieville after getting reports of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they found Patterson suffering from a single gunshot wound. Emerson was identified as a suspect and arrested shortly thereafter.
Officials say while at the sheriff's office waiting for transport to the parish jail, Emerson reportedly tried to flee from detectives, but was captured after a short foot chase. He was then booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center.
In addition to this indictment for murder, Emerson is also charged with simple escape, illegal use of weapons, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
