BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU snapped a two-game losing streak to McNeese State's Cowboys, scoring 13 runs in the first four innings to take a 13-3 victory Wednesday night at Alex Box Stadium in a game shortened to seven innings with a ten-run-rule in effect.
Parkview Baptist freshman Daniel Cabrera was 3-for-3 with 4 RBI, as the Tigers piled up 14 hits in just six innings and benefited from three Cowboys' errors.
Tigers starter Caleb Gilbert couldn't get out of the second inning, as LSU (29-20) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first and were tied 3-3 after the top of the second. A five-run LSU second inning uprising capped by Cabrera's three-run homer doomed McNeese (22-27). Cabrera would add an RBI single in a four-run third inning that gave LSU a 12-3 lead.
Trent Vietmeier picked up his first win at LSU in relief of Gilbert, pitching an inning and a third to get the Tigers to the fourth inning. Brandt Broussard, who was 2-for2 with two runs scored, picked up an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to close out the scoring.
