BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A woman was arrested Wednesday after reportedly attempting to kidnap and rob an elderly woman, but an off-duty officer from Slidell was able to step in and help.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the 83-year-old victim was leaving the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino around 2 p.m. when another woman, later identified as Tamikia Wesley Raymond, 42, got into her car, held a gun to her side, and told her to drive to an ATM downtown.
After leaving the ATM, BRPD says they were stopped at a red light and when it turned green, the victim did not drive forward. The man in the car beside them at the light is an officer with the Slidell Police Department. He reportedly rolled down his window and asked the victim is she was okay. She told the officer she wasn't, then Raymond tried to tell the officer she was the woman's caregiver. The victim told the officer that wasn't true, so the officer got out of his vehicle to help.
BRPD says that's when Raymond began to fight with the officer. Other officers with BRPD arrived shortly thereafter and assisted in the arrest.
Raymond is facing multiple charges, including false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery, and battery of a police officer. Police say the gun turned out to be a BB gun.
