BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern women's basketball coach Sandy Pugh has resigned to take the head coaching position at Prairie View A&M.
Pugh led the Jaguars for 18 seasons, including 15 winning seasons, seven SWAC titles and four SWAC tournament championships.
"Coach Sandy Pugh single-handedly elevated the profile of Southern University women's basketball and, in large part, the profile of women's basketball in the Southwestern Athletic Conference," Director of Athletics Roman Banks said.
"Her commitment to excellence and her passion for teaching the game of basketball has been evident on and off the court."
Pugh also served as interim Athletic Director from 2011-12 and led the Jaguars to NIT appearances in 2009, 2011, 2016, and 2018.
"I am excited to announce Sandy Pugh as the new head coach of Prairie View A&M women's basketball," PVAMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson said in a statement.
"She is a championship-winning coach with a proven pedigree of success. Coach Pugh won championships as a player in high school and college, and has been a part of and developed championship programs as an assistant coach and head coach. We look for her to lead and elevate Prairie View A&M women's basketball back to championship status and beyond."
