OSCAR, LA (WAFB) - Investigators believe speed was a possible factor in a deadly crash in Pointe Coupee Parish on Saturday.

Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Jeremy Manchester, 40, of New Roads.

Troopers said the crash happened on LA 1 (False River Drive) south of LA 978 (Bigman Lane) in the Oscar area around 9 p.m.

Sgt. Jared Sandifer with LSP said the investigation so far shows the wreck happened as Manchester was headed north on LA 1 in a 2006 Honda Accord.

"Troopers believe Manchester was exceeding the speed limit when he lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway," Sandifer said in a written release. "Upon leaving the roadway, the Honda struck a tree."

Sandifer added investigators aren't sure if Manchester was wearing a seatbelt. He stated Manchester was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner's Office.

As with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of Manchester's blood was sent to the Louisiana State Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
