ANGOLA, LA (WAFB) - Correctional officers at Louisiana State Penitentiary stopped an escape attempt Wednesday, say officials with the Department of Corrections.
Around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, inmate, Kristopher Schoeing, was seen running from a farm line while working in the field. Schoeing reportedly disobeyed a verbal command from an officer to stop, so a warning shot was fired. Schoeing continued to run, so the officer fired another shot. Other officers were then able to tackle and restrain Schoeing.
Schoeing was not hit by either shot fired, but was sent to the prison's treatment center for physical and mental evaluation nonetheless.
Schoeing is at Angola serving a life sentence out of Calcasieu Parish for aggravated rape. He has been an inmate at Angola since April of 2000.
The investigation is ongoing.
