BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An officer with the LSU Police Department, who allegedly beat his girlfriend, was arrested Monday night and now has been fired.
A spokesperson with LSU confirmed the firing Wednesday.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports Samuel Ellis III, 25, was booked on charges of second-degree battery and false imprisonment. He was released Thursday after posting a $7,000 bond.
Sgt. Don Coppola with BRPD said officers were called out around 2 a.m. Monday to an address on Harding Boulevard and found Ellis had allegedly beat his girlfriend, causing extensive damage to her mouth.
Coppola added Ellis held his girlfriend hostage for a couple of hours, then drove off in his car.
Coppola also said Ellis had a handgun and rifle in his possession when he left, which is why he was considered armed and dangerous at the time.
Ellis was a patrol officer with the LSU Police Department. He also previously worked at Southern University.
