WEST FELICIANA PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Two West Feliciana Parish residents are dead after separate incidents involving tractors.
"These are sad and very unfortunate accidents, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families. This is grass cutting season, so we want to take this time to remind and urge everyone to use caution when they are out operating heavy equipment," said Sheriff Austin Daniel.
Alphonse Lewis, 87, of St. Francisville, was cutting grass off Highway 10 when the tractor reportedly hit a large tree limb, pinning him against the tractor. The property owner called 911. Firefighters arrived on scene and had to use a chainsaw to cut the limb. Lewis was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Robert Jones, 69, also of St. Francisville, was killed the same day, May 1, while cutting grass off Sage Hill Road. For unknown reasons, Jones fell off the tractor and was then run over. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
