BAKER, LA (WAFB) - Several law enforcement agencies responded to a deadly pedestrian crash Wednesday morning in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Louisiana State Police reported a woman was hit and killed on Plank Road north of Groom Road in Baker around 5:45 a.m. Troopers said they are still trying to positively identify her.
Sgt. Jared Sandifer with LSP said the investigation up to this point shows the victim was walking in the road when a 2011 Dodge Challenger hit her from behind.
He added the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to troopers, the driver submitted to a chemical intoxication test and the results were negative. Investigators do not suspect impairment was a factor in the crash.
However, Sandifer said the driver was cited for driving with a suspended license.
Plank Road was closed in both directions between Groom Road and Bentley Drive for more than two hours.
Louisiana State Police, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, the Baker Police Department, and Brownsfield Fire Department responded to the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
