BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Secretary of State Tom Schedler is on his way out.

He sent a letter Tuesday to Gov. John Bel Edwards to announce his resignation effective May 8 amid serious allegations of sexual harassment.

Now, Kyle Ardoin, the first assistant secretary of state, prepares to take the reins. Next week, he becomes secretary of state, pending an election.

But, does he have his own skeletons to deal with?

According to a report by NOLA.com, Ardoin may have known about the alleged harassment before the accusations went public.

A lawsuit claims Ardoin knew Schedler was having problems with an employee and told her to "stay out of sight."

He denied the accusations in a Tuesday interview with the Associated Press.

"Mistakes were made, but we're moving forward and I think the secretary stepped down to allow us to continue to do the good work for the people," the report stated Ardoin said in an interview Tuesday afternoon.
