PONCHATOULA, LA (WAFB) - The driver of a truck was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday night in Tangipahoa Parish, according to investigators.

Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Jordan Hoyt, 28, of Albany.

Sr. Tpr. Dustin Dwight with LSP said it happened on LA 445 at Mike Cooper Road in the Ponchatoula area around 10:30 p.m.

He explained the investigation so far shows Hoyt was headed south on LA 445 in a 2002 Ford F-150 when the truck went all the way across the road and into the ditch. He said the truck then hit several trees and flipped. He added investigators have not yet determined what caused the truck to cross over to the other side of the highway.

According to Dwight, Hoyt was not wearing a seatbelt and got partially ejected in the crash, leaving him with serious injuries. Dwight said Hoyt was taken to North Oaks Health Systems, where he later died from his injuries.

Troopers said as with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, blood samples were taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

They added alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the wreck.

The investigation is ongoing.
