BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - This week, a number of former LSU football players will be meeting and greeting their new employers. The NFL draft has scattered a handful of Tigers all over the country.
One of those is quarterback Danny Etling, who was picked late in the draft. Etling's name didn't go off the board until the seventh round, but he was selected by a team that certainly knows how to win.
The New England Patriots called Etling's number at No. 219 overall. The former Tigers' signal caller, referred to the moment as the greatest feeling he's ever had playing the game. Etling's path has been a winding one up to this point. He began his college career at Purdue before finishing at LSU. Now, it's all about the road ahead.
"This is just the beginning for me," Etling said during a phone interview. "You enjoy the highs of getting drafted by the greatest organization in football, but you realize you have to keep working and improving."
New England's second game of the year, which will air on WAFB, is against Jacksonville. The Jaguars drafted former LSU wide receiver DJ Chark, a familiar target of Etling's over the last two seasons.
Of course, the Jags also have another player who Etling is familiar with, running back Leonard Fournette.
