NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

4401 Elysian Fields Avenue.

It’s home to Brother Martin high school and the Alma Mater of the final member of the 2018 Saints draft class, Will Clapp.

“Will was an outstanding player for us. I tell you what, when you watched him on the football field it was great to see how he finished blocks,” Brother Martin Head Football Coach Mark Bonis said. “More important than that he's always been a great young man in the classroom. You ask people around school obviously they'll tell you how great of a football player he was but most importantly just a great young man.”

Bonis coached Clapp during his time at Brother Martin. He said he knew instantly he had a chance at a pro career.

“Yes we definitely did. You look at his size, you know his background, you know his mom and know his dad,” Bonis said. “You always knew his potential, if he continued to work hard, and obviously his work ethic with us and at the collegiate level helped us to emerge into the player that he is today.”

And Clapp’s ascension from prep to college to now the NFL provides both pride and motivation for the next generation of Crusaders.

“It's exciting you get to tell a lot of your younger football players that there's things out there to look forward to and push them a little bit. It helps your program because a guy that they've seen who has brothers in this program that they've played with. When they saw him play a few years back, now he's being drafted in the NFL and gives them something to be excited about.”

Clapp is in rare company.. He joins Ken Bordelon and Eddie Robinson as the only Crusaders to ever to get drafted.
