Engineers release report on stability of library; some repair work planned for weekend

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - More closures are happening this weekend around the River Center Branch Library, which is under construction in downtown Baton Rouge.

Friday afternoon, the city released preliminary findings from a third party structural engineer. Those experts confirm that two steel support beams are compromised.

Crews are now moving in hydraulic lifts to help shore up the building. That just means adding extra support. That work is expected to be finished by Sunday. The crossover where North Boulevard meets St. Louis Street will be closed until then. Once the shoring is finished, contractors will figure out the best way to make permanent repairs to the building.
