The runoff for the 18th Judicial District Court seat was won by Tonya Smith Lurry, who took home 54% of the votes in Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge parishes.

In Iberville parish, 64% of voters chose Carrie Booksh as the Justice of the Peace in Warn 3, following another runoff.

Unofficially, voters appeared to be leaning towards renewing a 60-year-old property tax that funds about $1.7 million of the Baton Rouge Police Department's $90 million budget.

The same goes for two taxes that help the St. George Fire Department. Voters leaning towards approving both of those. Those two taxes would help the department move forward with several construction projects.

Fire Chief Gerard Tarleton thanked voters in a statement:

The unofficial election results are showing that the two St. George Fire Protection District propositions on the April 28 ballot were approved by the voters. We wish to express our sincere thanks to the Citizens of the District.

All of us at the St. George Fire Protection District / Fire Department are humbled by your confidence in us. Together, we look forward to building and placing new facilities into service to provide the very best emergency response possible.

We wish to take this opportunity to not only thank you, but to renew our pledge to continue being good stewards of your tax dollars as we continue to grow with the District.
