BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Baton Rouge-based organization is helping promote more diversity in journalism.

The Baton Rouge Area Association of Black Journalists (BRAABJ) hosted its sixth annual scholarship luncheon. They also honored individuals who have encouraged diversity in the industry. Retired news anchor, Sally Ann Roberts, was one of the guests of honor. She spoke about why this event is so important.

"You had people being honored across the racial line, so it's an organization that brings the community together, all for the same cause of providing fair, honest, accurate news reporting," said Roberts.

Founder of Alpha Media, Todd Sterling, and the Dean of LSU's Manship School, Jerry Ceppos, were also honored. The Manship School has a new commission that will help expand diversity.
