BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The WAFB 9NEWS team has been awarded four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards including Best Newscast, Excellence in Sound, Excellence in Video and Best Feature.

WAFB competed against television stations in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas.

The awards will now be judged on a national level with national winners announced later this year.

The Best Newscast award was for WAFB's 9NEWS at 5 p.m. for the February coverage of tornadoes across the viewing area.

The Excellence in Sound and Excellence in Video were for a report entitled "Donna's Voice" which showed how WAFB Anchor Donna Britt is working with a team at LSU to record her voice as she battles ALS. WAFB photojournalist Robert Hollins shot and edited the piece.

And the Best Feature award was for WAFB's piece entitled "The Backyard of Nathan Harvey." Photojournalist Derron Daquano and Reporter Greg Meriwether told the heartwarming story of how a band helped a local family make sure their beloved family member would always live on in their own backyard.
