BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An 8-year-old boy was accidentally shot by his 2-year-old brother Tuesday afternoon, according to investigators.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported it is believed the shooting happened inside a vehicle parked on North Marque Ann Drive.
Detectives said the children's father left a loaded handgun unattended when he got out of the vehicle.
Emergency officials said the child was taken to Baton Rouge General in Mid-City in a private vehicle and was then transferred to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
Officials with BRPD said the boy was shot in the upper arm and his injuries are not life-threatening.
The investigation is ongoing.
