BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Hundreds of people got the rare opportunity to discuss issues impacting Louisiana's energy industry with professionals in the field, along with state lawmakers.
The event was organized by the Grow Louisiana Coalition.
Their Executive Director, Marc Ehrhardt, says the state needs a more consistent tax code that will encourage companies to build here.
"We're fighting back and forth about where dollars should go and are these projects worth it or not," he said. "What's happening is that, in other states, those projects are growing, and there's more and more projects taking place outside Louisiana, that should be in Louisiana."
He also said the oil and gas industry provides a lot of good jobs, another reason he wants to see businesses grow.
"When you bring in more people in oil and gas in Louisiana, you're bringing in the best jobs available. Right now, someone working in oil and gas makes twice what the average Louisiana worker does."
Mark Menezes, the Undersecretary for the U.S. Department of Energy, was at the event, but declined any interviews, saying he didn't have permission from the White House.
