GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

A Gonzales couple was arrested Saturday in connection with a fatal April 6 head-on collision.

Investigators discovered that the couple had initially lied about who was driving and that the real driver was intoxicated.

Angela Gaudet, 31, and Joey Gaudet, 35, both of Gonzales, were arrested in the crash that killed 5-year-old Addisyn Teekell.

Initially, investigators say Joey Gaudet told them he was driving and trying to turn left on to Mire Road from Highway 621 when he hit a vehicle driven by Benjamin Teekell, 32, head-on. He claimed Angela Gaudet was in the passenger seat, but investigators with Louisiana State Police found that their injuries were not consistent with Joey Gaudet's claim.

Police say that evidence collected and witness statements confirmed that Angela Gaudet was driving, and toxicology results confirm that she was impaired at the time of the crash.

Addisyn Teekell was transported to a hospital after the crash where she later died. Her sister, Ashtyn, was also injured in the crash.

Angela Gaudet was arrested on vehicular homicide, 10 counts of vehicular negligent injuring, aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce, obstruction of justice, driving under suspension, no inspection sticker and four counts of no child restraints. Joey Gaudet was arrested on obstruction of justice and injuring public records.

After her death, Addisyn’s father posted a message of forgiveness on Facebook.

"As for the driver who took my princess Addisyn away, if I can’t forgive you then I am a hypocrite to what I preached to Her... And for her sake, I forgive you."
