Man dies after trying to cross Interstate on foot following crash

HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) -

A 24-year-old man died because he tried to run across interstate after he crashed his car. 

According to troopers with the Louisiana State Police, Archie Corsley Powell IV was struck at roughly 10:35 p.m. on Friday, April 20. It happened on Interstate 55 in Hammond roughly two miles north of University Avenue. 

"The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that Powell had just been involved in a single-vehicle crash on the right shoulder of Interstate 55 northbound at milepost 34.5," state a press release. "For reasons still under investigation, Powell exited his vehicle and ran across both northbound lanes to the left shoulder. Powell then attempted to run back cross both northbound lanes to the right shoulder." 

Powell was hit by two different vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene.
