COLUMBIA, SC (WAFB) - LSU suffered a second straight damaging road loss Friday night as Zack Hess and the Tigers fell 11-0 in Game 1 to the Gamecocks.
South Carolina (21-17, 7-9) outhit the Tigers 14-2 and seldom-used Logan Chapman combined with two relievers for a shutout to improve to 3-0.
While Hess allowed a first inning home run to Carlos Cortes, who was 3-for-4, for the only run the Gamecocks would need, Chapman pitched into the seventh allowing two hits and no runs.
South Carolina blew the game open after Hess worked six innings, scoring two in the seventh and six more in the eighth against the Tigers bullpen.
LSU (24-15, 9-7) suffered its second straight loss and is now just 2-8 in road games, with five more to play away from home in the next nine days.
