HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Deputies are looking for two women they say scammed several residents out of money by claiming they were collecting donations for a sick child.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reported the women told people they represented Trinity Baptist Church of Pumpkin Center and were raising money to support a child with cancer.

Investigators said the pair targeted several neighborhoods around Pumpkin Center, Ponchatoula, Bon Aire Subdivision, and Happywoods Road.

They added they have confirmed the women have no affiliation with the church. The women are described as "predators committing criminal acts against our residents."

The women are wanted on theft by fraud charges. It is believed they are from Livingston Parish.

Anyone who recognizes them is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-554-5245.
