Deputies on lookout for bee thief after 11 bee boxes go missing

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

Deputies are asking the public to "bee" on the lookout for a person(s) responsible for stealing boxes of bees.

On April 6, deputies with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint that five bee boxes, containing 10 frames of bees each were missing from someone's house off of Hwy 442 in Tickfaw. On April 16, a person in the Bankston Road area of Hammond reported six bee boxes and one swarm box, containing five frames of bees, was stolen.

The boxes are used to raise honey bees and harvest honey.

Deputies say both families rely on income from the honey harvested and that the beenappers face felony theft charges.
