NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Mardi Gras is a magical season for many different reasons. Lights, floats, beads and throws paled in comparison to one Mississippi woman's night out at Nyx.

Amanda Hoda of Kiln said Wednesday night's parade was a night she and her 7-year-old daughter Mckaylin will never forget.

Hoda and McKaylin joined her boyfriend Bryce Breland under the awning at the Double Tree to watch his mom ride in the Nyx parade.

"Everyone was so excited, and I was too. I thought it was all for his mom and the parade in general," Hoda said.

Little did she know that she was the only one not aware that Breland had an elaborate proposal planned.

"I was totally shocked. Bryce's mom-- I mean, my fiancé's mom, 'Oh my gosh, I can say that now!' She was riding in the parade on one of the floats," Hoda gushed.

Bryce's mom was tasked with holding a sign that said, "Amanda, will you marry me?"

"Everyone knew this was going on," Hoda said. "His brother filmed it, his Dad waved down the float driver so he would know where to stop. I was the only one who was clueless!"

Hoda said even her daughter was involved. She said they both went on a pre-Daddy-daughter date two weeks ago to pick out the ring.

But Hoda wasn't the only one who Breland got down on one knee for.

"He also proposed to McKaylin, asking her if he could be her Daddy," Hoda said. "It was so special and so sweet."

Hoda said everyone from McKaylin's teacher to the driver of the float knew she was about to be proposed to. Once she uploaded the video to Facebook, she learned just how many people knew about the engagement.

"They both kept the secret from me, which is good for them because they can't keep a secret!" Hoda said.

Although the engagement, which was caught on camera, looked seamless, Hoda said Bryce had several contingency plans due to the rain.

"Originally all the ladies on the float were going to hold a banner, but with the rain they had to use the poster," Hoda said.

Hoda said Plan C was Breland's mom throwing her a Nyx purse that read, "Will you marry me?"

Breland and Hoda have been dating for two years. She said Mardi Gras is their favorite season, and they missed it last year due to his brother's wedding.

"For him to incorporate our favorite time of year with his mom holding the sign, it was just so different and family oriented, which is big for me," Hoda said. "It was so perfect."

Will the couple have a Mardi Gras wedding? Maybe.

Hoda said she and Breland are planning a March 2019 wedding.
