The GOP lawmakers were on the way to a retreat in West Virginia when the accident happened.

Cassidy tweeted that he and Laura are okay, describing the moment as "scary."

Cassidy also said that he and his wife tended to those who were injured until EMS arrived.

Our sister station WAFB's Kevin Frey also confirmed that Representative Garret Graves was also on the train during the collision. Graves is reportedly okay.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan was also on the train, and his office told CNN he was OK. The only passengers on the train were the Republicans.

Rep. French Hill tells CNN via phone that two people were in the garbage truck. One was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital, who Hill believes to be the driver, and that he was thrown from the truck.

Majority Whip Steve Scalise and U.S. Senator John Kennedy were not on the train at the time of the accident, and are okay.
