NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Rex is moving its Lundi Gras celebration from Spanish Plaza to the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk’s Julia St. entrance.

Spanish Plaza is currently undergoing renovations.

Rex will arrive about “elegantly decorated vintage railroad cars,” according to a press release. It says the celebration is particularly special because of the city’s Tricentennial.

The Lundi Gras celebration at the Riverwalk is free and open to the public. It will feature live music from Cowboy Mouth and Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr. & the Zydeco Twisters, food and drinks, and a fireworks show over the Mississippi River.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu will hand the keys to the city over to Rex, who declares Fat Tuesday a day of fun and revelry.

The event starts Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. Rex arrives at 6 p.m.
