BENTON COUNTY, TN (WMC) -

The Ohio man who said his wife died during a trip to Graceland now admits he dumped her body in the Tennessee River.

Phillip and Roberta "Bobby" Snider were visiting Memphis when Bobby went missing. Phillip told police she died in Memphis, but no one was able to locate her body.

Initially, Philip said he and his wife left their Ohio home in early January to visit Graceland. He said it likely would be the last trip because his wife was dying from cancer.

Days later, Phillip admitted he dumped his wife's body in the Tennessee River along Interstate 40, Benton County Sheriff's officials told WBBJ.

“He says he put her body in plastic and disposed of her body over this bridge,” Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher said.

Sheriff Christopher said Phillip told authorities Bobby was sick with cancer and died from her illness on the way to Memphis.

“What he’s telling authorities is she passed away somewhere in Kentucky on the way to Graceland, and he continued on with their journey,” Christopher said.

Phillip checked into the Days Inn across from Memphis, but his wife was not with him. He told investigators he flagged down a nearby ambulance to take his wife.

"When nobody had no Jane Doe and no Roberta anywhere, we started wondering what happened," said Hartville (Ohio) Police Department Chief Larry Dordea.

When investigators found no sign of Roberta at the three motels her husband stayed at during his trip from Ohio to Memphis, Philip’s story changed to the Tennessee River.

Bobby's body has yet to be found. Ohio police are working with police in Tennessee to figure out what happened to her.

"His reason for doing this is he loved his wife and she wanted to be cremated,” Dordea said. “She never wanted to be on somebody's mantle so he wanted her back in nature so he threw her off the bridge."

Ohio investigators say they do not believe Roberta Snider is alive.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and Phillip Snider could still face charges, depending on what investigators uncover.
