After a stormy evening commute for some Wednesday night, FIRST ALERT Doppler radar is showing a mainly clear scan for the early drive. However, umbrellas may well come in handy starting later Thursday, as the forecast calls for a 40 percent coverage of showers/storms. It will be hot, with a high of 93.

By the way, we missed tying a record Wednesday afternoon by only two degrees. Our high topped out at 96. Overnight, it will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers possible and a low in the mid-70s. Friday, rain coverage increases to 50 percent. The daytime high will reach the lower 90s.

The "good" news:  the scattered afternoon showers/storms will help break the mid-afternoon heat for many of us each day. The "challenging" news: at least a 50 percent coverage of showers/storms stays in our forecast through the weekend, into early next week.
