Thompson named LSU police chief

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU has hired Bart Thompson as the university's new permanent police chief.

LSU Executive VP Dan Layzell made the announcement in an email to the police department Friday morning.

Thompson had been in the role as acting chief for several months.

Multiple people applied for the position, including former Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie.

LSU announced it would launch a nationwide search for a new chief when former LSUPD Chief Lawrence Rabalais abruptly resigned last June.
