ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

A jury in St. Tammany Parish found a former teacher and scout leader guilty of sexual battery, molestation and child pornography charges. Dennis C. Mischler, 65, of Covington was convicted Friday. He was found guilty of two counts of oral sexual battery, molestation of a juvenile and 54 counts of pornography involving juveniles. The jury returned the verdict to District Judge August J. Hand after deliberating for just under an hour.

“This case is tragic, not only because of what the victims suffered, but also because the system failed them for 40 years,” District Attorney Warren Montgomery said. “The guilty verdict reflects the hard work of the investigators, prosecutors, the jury, and judge.”

A District Attorney spokesperson says that over the 40-year span, Mischler molested male students, scouts and family members, who, when the crimes occurred, were in their early teens and younger. A number of victims testified against Mischler who testified in his own defense, denying the claims and saying that the victims were lying.
