NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Despite Thursday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Saints still remain atop the NFC South standings, but they aren't alone.

The Panthers have joined the Saints with a record of 9-4 after topping the Vikings on Sunday, but the black and gold hold the tie-breaker over Carolina after sweeping the season series.

As teams continue jockeying for playoff positioning, the Saints' room for error is dwindling.

They currently sit fourth in the NFC playoff standings behind Philadelphia (11-2), Minnesota (10-3) and Los Angeles (9-4), who are first, second and third, respectively.

In addition to the Vikings falling on Sunday, the Eagles defeated the Rams. Los Angeles holds a tie-breaker over the Saints due to their Week 12 victory.

Both the Panthers and the Falcons currently hold the two wild card spots with Seattle (8-5), Detroit (7-6), Green Bay (7-6), Dallas (7-6) and Arizona (6-7) still in the mix.

The Saints will return home on Sunday to face the Jets before a re-match with Atlanta at home on Christmas Eve. They wrap their regular season with a road contest against the Buccaneers on New Year's Eve.
