GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A Gonzales man pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and domestic abuse battery on October 23 in connection with a domestic incident on February 21. Public Information Officer Tyler Cavalier for 23rd Judicial District Attorney said the guilty plea was a result of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Authorities say Johnton Lee Harris was arrested on February 21 after admitting to slapping the victim during a verbal argument. Cavalier said authorities also found a 9mm handgun inside his vehicle.
Harris was ordered by Judge Thomas Kliebert ordered to be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a total of 10 years with credit for time served for the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Harris was sentenced to six months in the Ascension Parish jail with credit for time served for domestic abuse battery. Judge Kliebert ordered that the imposed sentences run concurrently. Harris will serve his sentence without the possibility of parole.
