Five young men arrested for reportedly breaking into school to play basketball

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Five Baton Rouge men have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a school to play basketball, reports the Baton Rouge Police Department.

On Thursday, April 27, around 10:15 p.m., BRPD officers were dispatched to a school on N 23rd St. in reference to an alarm going off. When officers arrived, they reportedly observed an open door and called for additional backup and a keyholder. Once inside, officers report seeing multiple subjects fleeing the scene. 

Officers chased the subjects and were able to catch the five men, who reportedly told officers they entered the school to play basketball. Officers noted the school is surrounded by a fence that is at least 6 ft. tall. All five men were read their Miranda rights and arrested. They were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the charge of unauthorized entry of a place of business.

The following were arrested:

  • Cedrick Dixon, 18
  • Travon Givens, 19
  • Reginald Laclour Jr., 19
  • Jalen Wheeler, 20
