CLINTON, LA (WAFB) -

One person is dead and another was taken to the hospital after an 18-wheeler overturned Friday morning, according to Louisiana State Police.

LSP began their investigation just after 8 a.m. on Friday, April 28. The single vehicle wreck on LA 37 south of LA 63 took the life of Richard Boudreaux, 47, of Denham Springs.

The initial investigation by LSP revealed the wreck happened as Donald Gill, 59, of Denham Springs was traveling southbound on LA 37 in a 2000 Freightliner 18-wheeler. For reasons still under investigation, Gill ran off the right side of the road, struck a tree, and overturned. Boudreaux was not buckled up at the time of the wreck and was ejected.

Boudreaux sustained fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office. Impairment is not suspected as a factor, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Gill for analysis. Charges are pending.

LA 37 (Greenwell Springs Road) at Lee Price Rd., which is south of Clinton, was closed for several hours due to the crash, reopening around 4:30 p.m.
