BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Deputies are investigating the suspicious death of a 40-year-old woman whose body was found near the roadway at the Ascension/Assumption Parish line Thursday afternoon.

Officials with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office confirm that Nicole Jackson was found dead shortly before 4 p.m.

Chief Deputy Bobby Webre says a truck driver was traveling over a small bridge between LA 308 and LA 1 south of Donaldsonville just before 2 p.m. when he spotted the body in the water and called the sheriff's office.

With the assistance of firemen, deputies were able to retrieve Jackson's body.

Webre says the autopsy revealed that Jackson had no signs of trauma, which is the reason why foul play is not suspected. However, the full autopsy has not been completed.

Anyone with information on the case should contact APSO at 225-621-4636, text an anonymous tip to 847411, or call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
