BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - One person was injured during a house fire Wednesday evening, says the Baton Rouge Fire Department.
The fire occurred at a home at 1940 Tennessee St. around 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. One person was treated for non-life threatening injuries after BRFD responded to the scene.
BRFD investigators say the cause of the fire was smoking material that was not properly discarded. The resident at the home says she was smoking while on the couch and noticed a fire in the couch. She says she tried to remove the couch, but the flames became too big. Firefighters arrived to find the front of the home fully engulfed, but were able to put the fire out quickly.
The American Red Cross was called out to assist the displaced resident.
