BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Belaire High School band has enough talent to take your breath away, but they need help to show off that talent to the world in Normandy, France.
The marching band was the only one chosen to perform at this year's D-Day celebration. Friday night, they held a royal gala, hoping to reach their fundraising goal for the trip.
"The band on their own, had raised about $58,000 with some serious sweat equity. Marching in bands, doing battle of the bands, marching in parades, doing battle of the bands, etc.," said Dawn Collins, a school board member.
The school says they needed around $78,000 for the trip, and at last check, they have not reached their goal. Friday night's fundraiser at Southern University runs until midnight. Those wishing to donate can mail checks directly to Belaire High.
