YOUR TURN: Deadly 18-Wheeler Crash

PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) -

This week’s Your Turn segment goes to Allison Silvas.

She is one of more than 1,000 people who commented on our Facebook page about the terrible 18-wheeler wreck in West Baton Rouge Parish. The fiery crash killed a 26-year-old man from Alexandria and injured several others.

Silvas and others want something done to prevent similar incidents at this location on I-10. In her words:

Eighteen-wheelers can't stop fast. Neither can trucks pulling anything like trailers or campers. Coming off the basin, the speed needs to significantly drop and caution lights installed as warnings that traffic may be stopped. I've seen this in other towns and a warning would be nice. Locals know traffic stops, but 70 to 0 in seconds just isn't going to happen with cars, much less 18-wheelers. Something needs to be done.

That’s Allison Silvas’ turn. Now it’s your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, visit us on Facebook or send an email to yourturn@wafb.com.
