FIRST ALERT FORECAST: Warm, generally dry spring day precedes potential for severe weather

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

YOUR QUICKCAST:

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy - warm; spotty/isolated PM showers - a high of 86°
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy overnight, light southerly winds; a low of 66°
SATURDAY: Scattered rain/storms (50% - 60% coverage); a high of 86°

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

-FIRST ALERT to the potential for the MARGINAL RISK of SEVERE WEATHER SATURDAY …

-In the meantime, a relatively quiet, mainly dry and very warm April day - quiet morning on FIRST ALERT Doppler radar, with only spotty/isolated showers popping up during the mid/latter hours of the afternoon (10% - 20% coverage)

-Not expecting much - if any - activity on Doppler radar until Saturday ... along and ahead of a strong cold front, sweeping in from the west, that may trigger a line of storms; some could become severe - producing damaging straight line winds, brief locally heavy rainfall and frequent lightning

-The threat of hail and/or tornadoes will be very low - but - can’t be totally ruled out!

-Prior to the passage of this latest spring cold front, our daytime high will push into the mid 80°s Saturday - giving a bit more fuel to the possibility for one or two strong/severe storms

-The cold front/precipitation will push to the east by Sunday morning - MUCH cooler air will arrive in time for a VERY pleasant change in temperatures Sunday afternoon; a HIGH only in the upper 60°s

-Unfortunately, the cooler than normal (for a change) temperatures will only stick around for a couple of days … Monday’s high in the mid 70°s; then we’re back to a high in the lower 80°s by Tuesday …
