PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - A man was killed after the truck he was driving went off the highway and flipped early Friday morning, according to authorities.
Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Travis Edwards, 35, of Port Allen.
Troopers reported the crash happened on LA 983 (Bueche Road) just north of LA 620 (Section Road) near Port Allen around 4 a.m.
Senior Tpr. Bryan Lee said what investigators know right now is that Edwards was headed north on Bueche Road in a 1997 Chevrolet pickup when the truck crossed the center line, swerved back and went off the road.
He said the truck hit an embankment and flipped. He added Edwards was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown out of the vehicle.
According to Lee, troopers have not yet determined what caused the truck to cross the center line. They are still collecting evidence and investigating.
Lee stated Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene by the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.
He noted it remains unknown if impairment was a factor in the wreck and as is the case with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of his blood was sent to a lab for analysis.
