BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An employee of Animal Crackers Learning Center on Jefferson Hwy. was arrested after reportedly pinching one of the children, causing bruises.
Officials say on March 22, deputies were dispatched to the daycare in reference to a battery that reportedly occurred on March 21. When deputies arrived, they spoke to the mother of the 3-year-old female child, who initially made the complaint. The mother told deputies her daughter was intentionally pinched by an employee of the daycare, identified as Alivia Lemoine, 20.
Deputies report they observed a small, round bruise on the child's upper arm. Deputies then contacted the director of the daycare, who said she became aware of the situation the morning of March 22, when another employee told her about a picture and text that was sent to that employee, from Lemoine, on March 21.
Deputies spoke to this employee, who showed them her phone. Deputies saw a picture of what appeared to be the child's arm with a small, round bruise. Deputies read the text message that followed the picture, which read: "Pinched [victim's name] arm. She gon' stop playing with me." The text message was followed by a laughing, smiling emoji. A second text, sent by Lemoine, read: "Wait till you see it tomorrow. It might be a bruise, girl pinched her so hard she couldn't even cry, her mouth was just open." This message was also followed by a laughing emoji, deputies report.
Lemoine was arrested on Thursday, April 20. She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of cruelty to juveniles and simple battery.
